Host FAQ
Payouts, commission splits, taxes, insurance, and how to run a great listing on Sourced Rentals. Not legal or tax advice — always confirm with a licensed CPA or attorney in your state.
How do I get paid?
Renters pay a 20% deposit at booking and the 80% balance before pickup. Both charges are collected by Stripe. Once the item is returned and the trip is marked complete, your share (net of the Sourced Rentals commission) is released to the payout account you connected in your profile. Payouts typically land in your bank in 2–3 business days after release. Payouts do not happen until the item is returned — this protects you and the renter if there are damage or dispute claims.
What are the commission splits?
The standard split is 90% to the owner / 10% to Sourced Rentals on the rental subtotal (not including sales tax or optional insurance, which are pass-through). Enterprise or fleet partners who cross $5,000 in gross receipts in a calendar month receive a volume discount: the commission drops to 8% for that month, applied via a month-end true-up. Reach out through Contact to enroll a fleet account.
Am I responsible for taxes? Will you send me a 1099?
Yes — as the owner of the equipment you are an independent operator and are responsible for your own income tax reporting. Sourced Rentals is a marketplace; we do not withhold income tax from your payouts. Depending on volume and your state, you may receive a 1099-K from our payments processor when the applicable threshold is met. We strongly recommend tracking your rental income and expenses in an accounting tool such as Xero, QuickBooks, Wave, or FreshBooks, and consulting a CPA about deductions (depreciation, maintenance, storage, insurance, mileage, etc.).
Do I need to collect sales tax?
Rental tax rules vary by state and by category (a boat rental in Florida is taxed differently than a lawn mower in Texas). Sourced Rentals shows a sales-tax line at checkout where required, but you are responsible for confirming the correct rate for your jurisdiction and for any local remittance obligations. When in doubt, talk to your CPA.
What about insurance and liability?
Each listing can require renter insurance (recommended for high-value items like boats, trailers, UTVs, and tractors) or leave it optional. Renters can upload an existing policy or add supplemental coverage at checkout. All rentals are governed by the Rental Agreement between the owner and renter — T1 Ventures, LLC dba Sourced Rentals is a neutral marketplace and is not a party to the rental. Maintain your own liability policy for anything the renter's coverage does not address.
What happens if a renter damages my item?
Document the condition with photos before and after every rental — the receipt page stores these. If damage occurs, file a claim through the renter's insurance policy on file. Sourced Rentals will hold the deposit and any payout in escrow until the claim is resolved. For enterprise partners, an extended protection add-on is available.
Can I decline a booking?
Yes. Set your listing to Request to book and every booking will wait for your approval before the renter is charged. Instant book listings are confirmed the moment the deposit is paid. Cancellations before you accept are free for both sides.
How do bundle rentals affect my payout?
When a renter bundles your item with items from other hosts, each host is paid independently for their portion. Your commission split, payout timing, and rules are the same as a single-item rental.
How do I get better reviews and rank higher in search?
Clean photos in daylight, honest specs, quick response times, and flexible pickup windows move you up fastest. After every completed rental both sides answer a short 5-question review — consistent 5-star hosts get priority placement in Browse and in bundle suggestions.
